Sego Lily Trio Based in Utah, the Sego Lily Trio is an all-female string ensemble dedicated to connecting and inspiring audiences through music that transcends time. With a deep appreciation for both tradition and innovation, they craft performances that bridge centuries, blending historical masterpieces with fresh perspectives. Their programs are thoughtfully curated to complement each venue’s aesthetic, creating immersive musical experiences that foster connections between eras, styles, and listeners.
Through artistic collaboration and engaging storytelling, the trio strives to make classical music accessible, meaningful, and resonant. Whether performing beloved classics or rediscovered gems, they invite audiences into a rich musical dialogue, honoring history while embracing creativity.

MEET OUR MUSICIANS
mELANIE hANSEN
Melanie is currently a senior at the University of Utah pursuing a Bachelor’s of Music with an emphasis in violin performance where she studies under Leonard Braus. She began playing at the age of 7 and knew since she was young that she wanted to pursue music as a career. Her accomplishments at the U include playing in the O.C. Tanner Honors Quartet (one of the top quartets), being a section leader in the Utah Philharmonia, playing in the pit for several operas, and playing at a wide variety of events across campus including graduations, retirement parties, and museum events. She also enjoys arranging music, including some of the arrangements played by the Sego Lily Trio. When she’s not playing violin, you can find Melanie reading and knitting under the watchful eye of her cat.
Sarah francis
Sarah is a dedicated musician and educator from Utah. Her musical journey began early, with piano lessons at age four and violin at age five. By junior high, she had learned multiple instruments, including the viola, cello, and bass. Sarah earned a bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education from Brigham Young University, with a minor in Statistics. Sarah is currently pursuing a master's degree in Violin Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Utah under Dr. Hasse Borup. She was a member of the O.C. Tanner Honors Quartet and is currently in the Michie Graduate String Quartet. In addition, Sarah is the concertmaster of the University of Utah Philharmonia. Sarah was the concertmaster of the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra for the 24-25 season. In addition to her musical achievements, Sarah is an avid photographer, capturing the world's beauty and people's essence.
Lydia mitchell
Lydia is currently a senior obtaining a degree in cello performance at the University of Utah, where she studies with Professor John Eckstein. She began playing cello at the age of 12, but has had a love for music for as long as she can remember. During her time at the University of Utah, Lydia has developed a love for chamber music. She has previously held a position in of one of the University’s top quartets, the O.C. Tanner Honors Quartet where she performed pieces by Haydn and Smetana, and also premiered works by living composers. When she isn’t making music, Lydia likes to spend her time reading, knitting, and doing crossword puzzles.
